Kathleen Desautels

Sisters of Providence

For Sister Kathleen Desautels, being a Sister of Providence means finding a way, whatever the situation, to make it for good- for the common good. As a staff member of the 8th Day Center for Justice in Chicago for over 25 years, Kathleen's work has focused primarily on women in church and society, institutional power, peace, and human rights issues. She has been arrested for non-violent civil disobedience many times, and has served time in jail. She spent her time in jail listening compassionately to the other women's stories, disarming even the toughest prisoners and guards with her unconditional friendliness. In Band of Sisters we see her compelled to walk with people who suffer, no matter what the cost.
